Wild berry, crushed herb, new leather and truffle aromas emerge from the glass. The juicy, savory palate offers red cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and a hint of grilled porcini framed in taut, polished tannins. Tangy acidity keeps it bright. It's already almost accessible but will age well for several years or more. Drink 2023-2028.

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino from Castelli Martinozzi is a spicy and floral effort, yet it comes across as a bit dried out. Macerated black cherry, hints of blackberry, clove, balsamic spice and hints of lavender fill out the bouquet. The textures are silky, cast upon a medium-bodied frame, with nervous acids adding tension. Dried wild berry fruits linger on the youthfully chewy and slightly rustic finish.
