Podere Salicutti Brunello di Montalcino 1999

We're sorry, but this product is not currently available.

Garnet red ruby very intense. Ample and intense with balsamic spicy tones (licorice, cofee and tabacco). Black berries (underbrush, cherries in spirits). Ripe fruits (strawberries, cherries), spicy (coffee- chocolate). Elegant. Body, warm and soft. Excellent tannin content and lengthy persistence.

Wine SpectatorVery pretty aromas of flowers, blackberries and lightly toasted oak. Full-bodied, with a solid core of ripe fruit and supervelvety tannins. It lasts for a minute on the finish. A joy to taste. Not the 1997, but very impressive. This is a cult producer from Montalcino. Best after 2006. 665 cases made.

Wine AdvocateSalicutti manages to get a good deal of press in Italy, but the wines, though certainly representative examples of the zone, have never blown me away. It's pretty much the same story with the 1999 Brunello di Montalcino, a medium garnet which could use some additional freshness, a nose of cherries, tobacco, and smoke whose fruit is slightly acerbic, and a forceful palate which would benefit from more roundness and softer tannins. Drink: 2005-2014.
