Magalhaes Late Bottled Vintage Port 2013
The 2013 Late Bottled Vintage Port Magalhães was bottled in August 2017 with a long cork and 105 grams per liter of residual sugar. It is unfiltered-a traditional LBV in most respects but aged only in stainless steel. It is an approximate 60/40 blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca (there are tiny dollops of other things but less than 2% combined). This is a beauty. Elegant, fresh and tinged a bit with eucalyptus, this shows beautiful focus, average depth and modest tannic pop. Its tightly wound precision is perhaps its best feature-it seems very refined and sophisticated for an LBV. Tasting it in a large group, at first I thought it was the Vintage Port. Finally, it ends with controlled flavor. It is a pleasure to drink, approachable young but able to develop too. Drink Date: 2018-2035.
